The initial aim of al-Furqan Foundation
was to document and preserve the Islamic written heritage, principally focusing
on the cataloguing, surveying, editing and publishing of Islamic manuscripts.
However, the involvement of scholars, the general public and institutions became an
essential component in the activities of al-Furqan, due to the need to
inform the demanding users of the Foundation, about the results, findings and
methods of its work.
In this section the Foundation presents
the events organised within the three centres regarding the main activities of
al-Furqan, namely the involvement of scholars and librarians in training
courses focused on the cataloguing and editing of Islamic
manuscripts and the preservation of the Islamic heritage; the organisation of
symposia and lectures on various aspects and topics related to the fields of
the three centres; and the promotion of awards and honours to support and
encourage researchers and academics on the study of those subjects.
In addition to the above, al-Furqan
organises other events with the aim of involving the local community in the
Foundation’s activities and to spread its works and publications to the
interested general public, i.e. by the participation at International Book
Fairs and the organisation of special exhibitions.
